How to use Fence Material Planner
- Measure each run and gate opening.
- Choose spacing from the fence product guidance and site conditions.
- Draw the layout and add corner, gate, and terminal posts separately.
Formula and assumptions
For a straight run, sections = ceiling(net length ÷ target spacing); basic line posts = sections + 1. Rails = sections × rails per section.
Quantity planning only, not structural or code advice. Wind, soil, fence height, materials, and local rules affect the correct layout.
Frequently asked questions
Does this include corner posts?
No; the formula is a straight-run baseline.
Is 8-foot spacing always suitable?
No. Follow the product instructions and local requirements.
How are gates handled?
Their opening length is subtracted from net run, but gate support posts need separate planning.
